Wana Kiiru interviews Melanie Malike Acorlor about her background between Ghana, Croatia and Bosnia, her writing, and the nine-track debut album Innerstandings she is finishing with Jan Kinčl as producer and beatmaker.
She talks about the live trio she plays with — herself on vocals, Ishfaq on synth, Jan Kinčl on production and DJing — about her time on The Voice, and about the contributions of Nikola Šantek on piano, Viktor Slamnig on bass and Gustav Barišin. At the time of the interview the album was in talks with a label.
“At the moment we function so that Jan Kinčl, Ishfaq and I work together. Ishfaq is on synth, Jan Kinčl is the DJ and producer of my material, and I sing. So now… as the music develops and when my album comes out, there will be a live band and everything that goes with it.”
