“Pustinja / The Desert” is one of the standout singles from Sara Renar’s acclaimed fifth album Nježne rijeci (Croatia Records, 2026) — widely cited among the year’s strongest Croatian releases and built around the idea of tenderness as a form of resistance. Having co-produced and mixed the original together with Renar, Jan Kincl reworks it into four versions — a remix and a dub, each with its instrumental — with Lovro Öhlhofer on bass guitar, keeping the original’s quiet tension intact. “After releasing the album Nježne rijeci, Sara Renar presents four remix versions of ‘Pustinja / The Desert’, one of its more notable singles. The main remix unites all the elements of the original, while the Dub — without the guitar parts — gives the song a different character and atmosphere; the instrumental versions are conceived as a tool for international DJs for whom the Croatian spoken-word vocal might not suit certain sets. As Sara Renar put it: ‘I’m always glad when a song of mine gets a remix, because it means it inspired someone else to new creative work — especially so with Pustinja. I came across Dimitrije’s forgotten instrumental completely by chance; it immediately inspired the lyrics and the vocal, and that’s how the original came to be — and then Kincl chose this very song for the first remix from Nježne rijeci.
