Phat Phillie & Slavin Balen predstavljaju: Zagreb Rap Demo 1985-1992 (2025)

INFO

Zagreb Rap Demo (1985–1992) is a compilation of previously unreleased demo recordings by the first generation of Zagreb rap artists, presented by DJ and radio host Phat Phillie and Slavin Balen, editor of the Radio 101 shows Electro-Funk Premijera (from 1984) and Rap Attack (from 1987), on which the tapes were originally aired. Phat Phillie digitised Balen's old broadcasts during the pandemic and selected the material; the 16 tracks by M.C. Be-Bop Dodo, Electro Team, The Silent Bomb, Diffo, W.F.P., Renato Đošić and Fresh Style are framed by Balen's and DJ Frx's original radio intros and outros. Mastered by Igor Fabris, edited and sequenced by Matko Sasek. Released on double vinyl, cassette and digital; in May 2025 it topped the Croatian HDU sales chart, the first hip hop album to do so that year. Out on Dallas Records, 25 April 2025.

LINER NOTES

“During the COVID pandemic I went down to my basement for the cassettes and started digitising Slavin Balen's old radio shows. I found incredible, never-released Zagreb rap demo recordings, which I decided to select, restore, master and release on the compilation 'Zagreb Rap Demo (1985–1992)'. For the first time you have the chance to hear the first Zagreb rap generation, who recorded demos only so they could be played on Slavin's show.” — Phat Phillie, Ravno do dna, 8. svibnja 2025. (translated from Croatian)
