"Why does a melody sound a certain way? Why do we perceive a rhythm in a particular way?" wonders Lovro Baletić, a young music producer whose new EP project 'Sve odjednom' is a real treat for synth-pop lovers. The EP is introduced with the single 'Ne sjećam se' featuring talented singer Lara Javor, known as Boisette.
"I chose her first because that’s where it all began. I started working on the song back in 2021 and finished it at the end of 2023. I changed the arrangement and instrumental parts several times. It’s also worth mentioning that I probably wouldn’t have signed a contract with Aquarius if it weren’t for 'Ne sjećam se' so it made sense to introduce the EP with this single," adds Lovro.
Lovro started exploring music as a child, experimenting with the sounds around him. Coming from a family of architects, he quickly realized he was the "black sheep" as his sole interest was music. "They saw early on that I wasn’t going to be an architect, so they supported me. They’ve always been there for me, and I’m immensely grateful," says Lovro.
With his parents' support, he progressed quickly: first by playing drums in local bands, then through studying music production in Amsterdam, where he spent three years honing his skills. There, he became familiar with digital production and sampling, developing a distinctive sound that combines retro elements with a modern approach.
Lovro’s inspiration includes artists like The Weeknd and Nipplepeople, who also blend retro elements with modern sounds, while he’s fascinated by pioneers like Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and Kraftwerk. This unique mix of influences is evident in his work, where synth-driven rhythms and nostalgic touches create fresh yet familiar soundscapes.
Returning to Zagreb, Lovro dedicated himself to the local scene, focusing on genres like synth-pop and retro-futurism. Collaboration with talented musicians is part of his creative process—for each of the three songs on the project "Sve odjednom," he collaborated with a different vocalist, crafting a unique blend of sound reminiscent of Nipplepeople but with a distinct modern twist. "My goal is to evoke feelings in listeners, not necessarily send a message, but to create an experience," he explains.
Baletić’s music captivates listeners from the first listen—the modern 80s vibe brings a layered richness that, he believes, will appeal to a wide range of listeners. "My sound is retro with modern production, a combination of analog aesthetics and contemporary techniques," he adds. A true treat for synth-driven music fans.
Today, Lovro works at Cycle Studio in Zagreb, where he collaborates with colleague Jan Kinčl on projects for commercials, podcasts, and music ventures, but his own music remains his greatest source of satisfaction. "I enjoy creating both for others and myself. For 'Sve odjednom,' I also made a DJ remix, so there’s truly something for everyone."
His plans for the future are ambitious yet realistic—Lovro aims to continue developing his own sound, experimenting with genres, and connecting with various artists. Through his music, he wants to evoke emotions in the audience, creating a space for nostalgic and innovative soundscapes.
Besides creating music, Baletić is also passionate about traveling and different cultures, which inspire him and broaden his horizons. His message to young producers? "Finish your songs before starting new projects—that’s the key to growth," he advises. Lovro's passion for music is infectious, and his journey is a testament to the rewards of perseverance and dedication.
