The second instalment of Jan Kinčl’s diary from his December 2023 South African tour, again written by Jan himself and published by Mixmag Adria a week after part one. It picks up over the Christmas and New Year stretch of the tour, from a missed encounter with Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi to a New Year’s Eve that ended on the minimal floor of a vast Johannesburg club.
The entries cover the Sounds So Deep party in Benoni, where Jan tested unreleased material including a Kez YM remix due on CYCLE-02; a Christmas Eve b2b set with Gary at an open-air barbecue party in Makwarela, near the Zimbabwean border, reached after eight hours of driving and a visit to Gary’s family; the Wasted Sundaes party at Smoking Kills Bar in Melville, the venue he found closest to a European club; and New Year’s Eve at a hi-fi listening bar followed by the four-floor club Truth. Each entry again closes with a “record of the night”.
“With the whole gastronomic offer and the setting, the audience listens to the music with a high degree of attention, comments and enjoys it… Fascinating…”
“I love parties like that, because the audience forces you to give your very best…”
