Montreal collective Music Is My Sanctuary premiered “Just Stay (Kai Alcé Remix)” in March 2021, ahead of the It's Been A While EP on Save The Groove, a sublabel of the Neapolitan label Frole Records. The write-up places the release after a 2020 in which Jan put music out on Far Out Recordings, Sonar Kollektiv and Oye Black Label, and prints the EP's full credits.

What the piece covers

The four-track EP holds Jan's solo “Love's So Far Away”, two cuts with French keyboard player Regis Kattie — “Day By Day” and “Just Stay (Dub)” — and the premiered remix by Atlanta house figure Kai Alcé, with brass by Zvonimir Bajevic. All tracks were produced by Jan at Cycle Studio Zagreb; the label's roster context (Gari Romalis, Norm Talley, Rick Wade, Orlando Voorn) is noted in the piece.

“Just Stay (Kai Alcé Remix)” is a masterful reinterpretation of “Just Stay”, which transforms the otherwise more laidback original into a driving 3am house tune.
